Feast of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
On the night of the 15 October 2016, all roads led to the Cathedral of Christ the King in Johannesburg for the second night vigil celebration of in honour of our patron, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque whose feast is on the 16 October.
In her welcome address, the President, Bridgette Goeieman, reminded us that we owed much gratitude to this simple yet holy woman of prayer who experienced one of the most powerful revelations of all time by Our Lord Jesus Christ and was a true agent of His mercy.
The event was very well attended and guests included members from other sodalities in our Archdiocese, family members, members of the Sacred Heart Sodality and The Immaculate Conception of Mary (Kemolo ea Maria) from the Pretoria Archdiocese as well as members from the Manzini Diocese in Swaziland.
The atmosphere was electrifying and the rafters came down as melodies went up in praise and worship led by our male choir, Amaqhawe e Sacred. Moving testimonies were given by members from the West Rand, Soweto and Vaal Deaneries about their experiences during the Jubilee Year of Mercy. All projects on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy undertaken by the Diocesan Committee and its 6 Deaneries were showcased during the Holy Mass and presented in a narrated procession at the altar.
The excellent line-up of priests included the Sodality’s Spititual Advisor, Fr Mbulelo Sikotoyi, who unpacked the theme: “Make me an agent of Mercy” with reference to Luke 10. Other speakers were Frs Similo Mnagadi who delivered a very insightful teaching on the parable of the Good Samaritan ( Luke 10), Sibusiso Mkhize from KZN, Karabo Baloyi and the very energetic Fr Victor Ngwenya who kept the crowd alert and engaged during the healing service which continued into the early hours of the morning. Each speaker was very dynamic and on-point with their delivery of the liturgy and talks and made us realise just how much Jesus was still pouring out His love for us from His Sacred Heart as the night unfolded.
The very captivating mood in the cathedral was very uplifting spiritually and the anointing of the Holy Spirit was tangible. The spirit of Margaret Mary was indeed with us as we implored her intercession to pray for us to imitate her and to become agents of mercy too.
